Temporary imports (Can work very well for expensive products)

If you import and export, you know that it is necessary to carry out many procedures and that these vary from country to country.  This can be very expensive if what you want, for example, is to send a piece from one country to another to repair something or if you want to showcase expensive equipment at an exhibition or show it to a buyer. This is where temporary imports come in. There are different permits for temporary imports, and we will discuss them in this article, the first is the IMMEX program. Manufacturing, Maquila, and Export Service Industry or IMMEX allows manufacturers to import raw materials and equipment into Mexico tax and tariff-free for a limited time (including the value-added tax, IVA). To be eligible for this benefit, the products must be temporarily imported and used in an industrial or service operation that is designed to manufacture, transform, or repair goods for export.  These short-term imports must eventually become part of a larger export. The earnings you’re missing just because you do not know how to export to Mexico

When it comes to business is all about finding new paths and being open to every possibility. As new technologies emerge, so do new business ventures.

The pandemic caused the fastest-growing stage for e-commerce that we have seen in the latest years and Mexico was the number one market in 2019.

Retail e-commerce sales grew 35% in Mexico, and it is ahead of countries like India and China. Although Mexico is not one of the top ten markets of the world, your business can take advantage of these growth rates to increase revenue in the coming years.

You might think that exporting to Mexico is difficult but not exploring the possibility isn’t a wise business move, after all, who doesn’t like profitability?

The truth is that exporting to Mexico is not that hard, especially from the United States, as both governments have extensive trade agreements to benefit from their shared border.

Typically, Mexican buyers oversee obtaining permits, paying customs fees, and retaining a customs broker agent to follow up with the importation process.

If you’re an exporter in the US, you need to talk to your Mexican clients and make sure they have all the necessary documentation in order before shipping your merchandise.

It is important to keep in mind that every shipment that enters Mexico must have an Importer of record. Five documents are the most important to have when exporting to Mexico, they are:

  • The Mexican entry form. This document is a tax receipt and shows that all taxes required by Mexico are paid. The broker will need this format to complete the import process.
  • Commercial invoice.
  • Bill of Lading.
  • Certificate of origin.
  • Packing list.

Mexican authorities report that the most common mistake of US exporters is incomplete documentation. At all times The US Commercial Service assists US exporters with their shipments and they’re the entity to turn to if your merchandise is rejected or detained.

We recommend US exporters use an experienced freight forwarder and a Mexican customs broker as they can detect and correct any problems before shipping the merchandise.
